Glossary of Techniques Used.
Filigree, canes of transparent crystal that incorporate either single or multiple straight or spiraling threads.
Flamework, a term used to apply glass to the surface, mainly in rod form, usually using an oxy/propane hand held torch.
Graal, a Swedish technique that uses an amne or embryo (cup with layers of colour) that have been cameo carved to reveal
a picture or pattern which is then re-heated, picked up on a blowing iron and encased in clear glass.
Incalmo, to join when hot two cups of glass of equal diameter.
Lattichino, uses equally spaced filigree strands to produce a criss cross lattice effect.
Murrine, uses canes of applied colours that form patterns or images that are revealed when cut in cross sections, millefiori,
layers of ribbed colours that resemble simple flower patterns, when bundled and re-pulled these produce complex canes.
Picture canes, can be formed two ways, by either adding rods of colour in the hot side by lampworking, or at the glory-hole,
or by using fine strands of coloured glass held in a tube to build up a pixel type picture, silhouette canes, are picture canes that
use two contrasting colours, one ofwhich forms the silhouette.
Reticello, similar to lattichino but includes a small air bubble trapped within each clear diamond section.
